DiiG Student Members:

Justyna Berzowski is a PhD student at SLAIS working on Luanne Freund's Digital Government project. She has a degree in mathematics from the University of Waterloo and information studies (info. systems) from the University of Toronto. Her research interests are in supporting classification tasks and facilitating retrieval among novice users.

Julia Bullard is a former English Lit-type, with an MA in Cultural Studies (an excuse to study games as their own thing, rather than shoehorning them into another discipline). Julia is in her second-to-last semester of the MLIS and is currently working with Heather on a Directed Research Project. Julia's project is looking at designer/developers of web-based information databases for World of Warcraft, under the lens of information behaviour and serious leisure (check out Robert Stebbins and Jenna Hartel on the subject for some good stuff).

diigalex
Alex Garnett is a first year MLIS student. His background is in computational linguistics and webdesign, and he's currently working with Edie Rasmussen, along with Judy Illes of Neuroethics Canada, on data mining the current neuroethics literature. Specifically, the team is looking at whether there are more ethics-related concepts in the neuroethics literature since the relative explosion of research in the field, using 2002 as a baseline. Alex's experience in natural language processing is mainly in Python, working with the oftentimes questionable and sometimes-hilarious Web Ecology Project.

Amanda Leinberger
is a second year MAS student. Amanda's background is in history and sociology, and she is currently working as a research assistant with Luanne Freund on the digital government project.

diigchristine
Christine McPhee is a second year MLIS student. She has a background in both the arts (English) and the sciences (geology) and is a Research Assistant working as a project manager with DiiG. Chrisitne is also working on the Designing Digital Information Use Environments project with Rick Kopak and Heather O'Brien, in particular, examining how activity theory informs the creation and evaluation of online reading environments.

Shannon Simpson is a first year MLIS sudent. She graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a BA in History and International Affairs, and minors in Geology and Russian. Shannon has been working in the Preservation Department at CU Library, evaluating brittle books and overseeing a major Collection Needs Assesment Project. She is working with Edie Rasmussen as a Research Assistant on the Indexer's Legacy Project.
